Anne Rice's Mayfair Witches returned for its gothic sophomore season on AMC on January 5 and packs a dramatic punch as this season is more thrilling than the first.

After the mega successes of last year's The Ones Who Live starring Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira, and Interview with the Vampire starring Jacob Anderson and Sam Reid, AMC has been on a major roll producing powerful and highly entertaining content. The Real Perspectives could not wait to dive into this highly anticipated season having the opportunity to screen the season before it's premiere.

Mayfair Witches, created by Michelle Ashford and Esta Spalding, is based on Anne Rice's novel trilogy Lives of the Mayfair Witches. The first season premiered on AMC on January 8, 2023, and stars a fantastic Alexandra Daddario, who returns as Rowan Fielding, the neurosurgeon who came into her own as a powerful witch after discovering her powerful family lineage dating back centuries is connected to the charismatic and dangerous demon named Lasher.

At the end of season 1, we see a more powerful Rowan embracing her dark side after avenging her cousin's death, Tessa, and giving in to Lasher's manipulations. Her destiny as the thirteenth witch is fulfilled as Lasher is reborn as Rowan's baby. Season 1 ended on a tantalizing cliffhanger as we were introduced to The Talamasca, the secret organization that investigates paranormal activity, and Rowan taking her baby after having a huge fight with Ciprien, her ally who also works for The Talamasca.

Mayfair Witches season 2 has found its groove and has fully embraced the horror of its dark universe, picking up shortly after the events of season 1. It is superbly well done, with each episode fantastically leading up to the season finale. The first episode sets the tone for the rest of the season and without revealing spoilers, the official trailer produced by AMC sees Lasher grow exponentially from a baby to a full grown man in a short period, desperate to explore as he hunts The Mayfair women and creates chaos. Can Rowan stop him, and will she, as we see the inward struggles with the temptation of the darker, stronger powers that Lasher provides her. The connection and power struggle between Rowan and Lasher is captivating, setting the foundation for the rest of the season and making the stakes much higher. The new additions to the ensemble cast also give us more Mayfairs and Jirrels' Moira plays her role to perfection.

Mayfair Witches is connected to Interview with the Vampire and the new Talamasca series, and the Immortal Universe shows no signs of stopping, which is a massive sigh of relief for Immortal fans.

The first episode of season 2, Mayfair Witches, is currently airing on AMC and streaming on AMC+.
